LBOWe caught up with Long Island rapper LBO for an exclusive interview where we talked to him about his Mixtape, his music, his musical influences, and more. Hit the more button to read the full interview.

You recently released your Mixtape, Old Soul. How did the name of it originate?

LBO: The name Old Soul originates from how  much of a worldly view I have. If you listen to the tape you’ll realize I don’t think like an eighteen year-old freshman in college. I’ve always been told that I’m an “Old Soul,” and that I definitely have had some past lives to learn from.

You state that you have a view of the world that you wouldn’t expect from an 18-year-old freshman in college. Please elaborate.

LBO: Like I said before, I have a pretty experienced perspective of the world and of people. I can read people way too well.

Is this your first Mixtape?

LBO: Yes, this is my first Mixtape.

Who are the producers on Old Soul?

LBO: The producers on the Mixtape include Spence Mills, 5 Star Beatz Inc. and me. I also used the instrumental for “Infinite” by Eminem and the instrumental for “Freaks And Geeks” by Childish Gambino.

Do you have a favorite track on the Mixtape, and if so, which is it?

LBO: My favorite track on the Mixtape is “Infinite.” I love Eminem and I love how I performed on that track in general.

How would you describe the sound of Old Soul?

LBO: Old Soul sounds exactly as the title describes. Different songs embody different emotions and thoughts of mine, some more deep and meaningful then the others.

Where can we find the Mixtape?

LBO: You can find my Mixtape on datPiff (http://www.datpiff.com/mixtapes-detail.php?id=424456), HotNewHipHop, and on my EPK.

You were a finalist in the HotNewHipHop HeatSeekers Edition 12 with your track “Me, Myself, And I”. Elaborate on that accomplishment and how it has benefited your career.

LBO: I was ecstatic when I received the e-mail saying I made the final 12. Then voting began, and my fans were able to place me in the top four finalists. I’m very thankful for that. It benefited my career in simply gaining more recognition.

Do you write your own music?

LBO: Yes, all my lyrics are my own.

Are you signed to a label?

LBO: Not yet!

Who have been your musical influences?

LBO: My musical influences include Dr. Dre, B.o.B, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Tech N9ne, Dizzy Wright, XV, and Childish Gambino.

What sets you apart from other rappers?

LBO: What sets me apart from other rappers is the content of my music and my unique lyricism. I also sing, play the piano, produce, and beatbox as well. Being musically versatile is something very important to me.

Do you have any release dates for any upcoming singles, videos, and/or collaborations?

LBO: I don’t have any particular release dates but I have a party track produced by DarkElixer from the UK coming out real soon. I’m also working on a track with Dizzy Wright that’s coming out within the next month or so.

If you could choose one female artist and one male artist to do a collaboration with, who would they be?

LBO: If I could collab with anyone right now, it would be Eminem and/or Santigold.

Are you currently on tour?

LBO: Not yet, but I’ll be doing my first performance in February!

What are your social media outlets?

LBO: My social media outlets include Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

What would you like to say to your fans before we end this interview?

LBO: Thank you everyone for being there for me! You guys are the reason I won on HotNeHipHop and I’m so thankful for that. I got a lot of good stuff coming out in the next few months so stick with me!!
